Welcome back to Karma of the Week. What a crazy week it has been. For the first time in the 14 months that I have been bringing you KotW, I have a three way tie for a bad karma winner. There will be no honorable mention and no runner-up, just three winners....err....losers. Here we go. Bad Karma Winner #1- Al "Crazy @$$" Davis fires Kiffin The crazy owner of the Oakland Raiders has struck again. After threatening to fire head coach Lane Kiffin after every week so far this season, he finally made good on his promise after the Raiders lost to the Chargers ... Read Full Story

Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive didn't use notes and didn't know how long he spoke. His message to his football coaches and athletic directors Wednesday couldn't be clearer: Stop the public verbal sparring of the past few months. Now. "I had all 5-9, 170 pounds of me into every word I said," Slive said. Slive hasn't been happy about the string of public exchanges over the past few months, almost all involving new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin. Coaches said the commissioner didn't mince words behind closed doors Wednesday during joint session of football coaches and athletic directors at the league's annual spring business meetings. ... Lane Kiffin didn't back down or hand out apologies Tuesday before he met his fellow Southeastern Conference football coaches many of whom he has called out and insulted. The new Tennessee coach and his SEC colleagues gathered in Destin for face-to-face meetings at the annual spring conference. All the coaches individually addressed the media before the sessions began. In his first few months on the job, Kiffin has taken verbal jabs at several of the SEC heavyweights, including Florida's Urban Meyer, Alabama's Nick Saban and South Carolina's Steve Spurrier. Kiffin called Meyer a "cheater" on signing day in February. Meyer said before meeting Kiffin ... Read Full Story

Although Al Davis seems to always be famously quick on the trigger firing head coaches, he is not exactly taking quick action to hire a new one, but maybe that is for the best. Davis isn't exactly in the good graces with anyone these days with his erratic and almost idiotic decision making, but I have to think he may have learned his lesson for being quick on the draw with this past decision like signing free agents DeAngelo Hall, Javon Walker and hiring a young head coach in Lane Kiffin. It is pretty much common sense these days in professional sports that there ... Read Full Story

Well, this decision seemed like to be inevitable. Crazy Raiders owner Al Davis has made his decision on the Oakland Raiders head coaching job, arguably the most undesired position in all NFL football. With finishing the season they way he did I think Tom Cable was a no brainer to be the new head coach for the Raiders. First of all, I don't know a single coach who would want to come to Oakland right now with all the drama Lane Kiffin endured last season, but Tom Cable seems to be up to the task and in my opinion they got the right man ... Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell has thrown two touchdowns and nine interceptions so far this season...

Earlier in the NFL season I wrote a piece about how JaMarcus Russell will end up as one of the biggest busts in history, and some readers maligned me for it. Everybody has their own opinion, and Russell’s performance thus far has only been in my favor (the guy was benched against the Chiefs today...yes, the Chiefs ).   But now I want to look at another Oakland Raider who has fallen on hard times: Darren McFadden. And before I get into it, I...

As I watch yet another uninspired Raider effort in an ugly game today, I can't help but wonder—what's the plan for 2010?  Rumormongers are already saying Al Davis wants to fire Cable for cause after the season.  It's just not that simple. With five coaches since 2001, Al clearly can make the firing decision when he feels it's warranted.  If he fires another coach, it will be JaMarcus Russell's fifth play caller in three years.  Unless the next...

Back in 2003, the Oakland Raiders defeated the San Diego Chargers by a score of 21-14. Doug Gabriel returned a punt to win the game for the visiting Raiders. The win ended a miserable 4-12 season for Oakland one year removed from reaching the Super Bowl. Curiously, the Raider quarterback performances that day make JaMarcus Russell look like Joe Montana. Rick Mirer and Tee Martin combined to complete six of 22 passes with zero touchdowns and...

Going into their bye during week five of last season, the Oakland Raiders were in a familiar position. Sitting with a 1-3 record, a lack of passion, and an uphill climb to improve the squad, the team finally pulled the trigger on the firing of "Lance" Kiffin, much to the delight of owner Al Davis. Davis put on a show rarely seen in sport as he called a press-conference and actually used an old-school overhead projector (I'm guessing Al isn't...

When Tom Cable was hired as interim coach of the Oakland Raiders last year, owner Al Davis memorably whispered to a subordinate that he did not know much about him. Davis needed a media guide biography before introducing him. Just over 13 months later, the Raiders have learned quite a bit about their coach -- much of it troublesome.

Darrius Heyward-Bey has done nothing in the first half of his rookie season to quiet the critics who questioned why the Oakland Raiders drafted him seventh overall ahead of many more accomplished receivers. Brought in for his breakaway speed that Oakland hoped would revive the vertical passing game, Heyward-Bey has only five catches for 74 yards and no touchdowns in his first eight games as a pro.

The Oakland Raiders are finally healthy, at least on offense. Running back Darren McFadden, wide receiver Chaz Schilens, left guard Robert Gallery and right tackle Cornell Green returned to practice Monday and are expected to play against the Kansas City Chiefs this week. That would be a much-needed morale boost for an offense that has scored just six touchdowns in eight games and ranks 31st in...

The Oakland Raiders' ineptitude on offense has been a boon to Shane Lechler in his bid to break the NFL's single-season punting record. Lechler, who already owns the league record for career average, is having his best season so far and is making his strongest bid yet to beat Sammy Baugh's 69-year-old record of 51.4 yards.

Since the middle of the 2007 season, no team in the NFL has been worse than the Kansas City Chiefs. All the losing and mistakes somehow disappear when the Chiefs arrive in Oakland. Jamaal Charles scored on a 44-yard run for Kansas City's first rushing touchdown of the season and the Chiefs used a late interception to win their seventh straight road game against the Oakland Raiders, 16-10 on...
