Barack Obama chose Senator Joe Biden for his running mate in the 2008 presidential election.


 At 12:47 a.m. Pacific Time Aug. 23, 2008, Barack Obama announced that Joe Biden would be his running mate with a text message that said: "Barack has chosen Senator Joe Biden to be our VP nominee. Watch the first Obama-Biden rally live at 3pm ET on www.BarackObama.com. Spread the word!"
