A community portal about Obesity with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and other mammals, is increased to a point where it is a risk factor for certain health conditions or increased mortality. Obesity develops from the interaction of individual biology and the environment. Excessive body weight has been shown to predispose to various diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus type 2, sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis. Obesity is both an individual clinical condition and is increasingly viewed as a serious public health problem.
WARNING: Always consult a doctor before starting any new, radical diet that promises extreme results fast. Studies show that the best way to lose weight is by eating healthy and exercising. Losing large amounts of body weight in short periods of time has been proven to strain the organs and is generally not advised.

Measuring a person's waist circumference puts many of the 'dislikers' of the BMI at ease because it allows for a more accurate measurement of a person's body fat. If a muscular person is rated as overweight on the BMI, measuring their waist circumference can determine if that person is indeed overweight.
