Olindo Mare kicked a 30-yard field goal as time expired to send the Seattle Seahawks to a 20-17 victory on Sunday over the San Francisco 49ers, who wasted a career passing day from Alex Smith and many other opportunities.  

With both teams struggling to find any continuity on offense, the Seattle Seahawks turned to their most consistent player, kicker Olindo Mare, to put the game away on Sunday.

Mare’s 30-yard field goal with no time remaining, his franchise-record 18th consecutive successful attempt, gave the Seahawks a 20-17 victory at Qwest Field, and in the process all but crushed the 49ers’ faint playoff hopes.
