STATE KNOCKS OFF FLOUNDERING CLEMSON

By equisort1 on  From todaysaccheadlines.com
N.C. STATE 59, CLEMSON 57 – Oliver Purnell must be exasperated with North Carolina on one hand and delighted on the other. The Tigers haven’t won in Chapel Hill since the Titantic sunk, but this year when they would have been a lock to break the drought, their one game against the Heels was in Littlejohn. On the other hand, the “man bites dog” story of UNC’s dreadful season has steered much media attention away from what has to be considered a terribly disappointing season for Clemson...Read Full Story

CLEMSON HIRES WRITGHT STATE COACH

By equisort1 on  From todaysaccheadlines.com
Brad Brownell of Wright State was hired Tuesday as the basketball coach at Clemson. Brownell succeeds Oliver Purnell, who was hired in 2003 from Dayton and led Clemson to the past three NCAA tournaments. Purnell surprised Clemson last week when he left to coach DePaul. Clemson said Brownell was to be introduced Tuesday at an afternoon news conference, where terms of the agreement were to be discussed. Brownell went 84-45 in four years at Wright State. He led the Raiders to a 20-12 record last...Read Full Story

Missouri’s Tiger Tale Has Happier Ending Than Clemson’s

By yours on  From asianews.com.pk
Filed under: Clemson , Missouri , NCAA Tournament – East Region BUFFALO — The coaches for both Clemson and Missouri were calling it beforehand as the potentially most exciting, competitive game of the first round. That would have been a tall order under any circumstances and, after Thursday’s drama, it would have been near-impossible. Missouri ended up making its own coach, Mike Anderson, a poor prognosticator, because while the up-tempo, full-court-pressing teams were as electric as...Read Full Story

PURNELL LEAVING CLEMSON

By equisort1 on  From todaysaccheadlines.com
Clemson coach Oliver Purnell, 56, will be introduced today at a 1:30 p.m. news conference as the new coach of DePaul. Purnell has been successful at Clemson, where he turned around the once-struggling ACC program the last seven seasons, going 138-90, including 21-11 this season. However, Tiger fans are quick to point out that Purnell is 0-7 in the NCAA tournament. Purnell also was successful at Dayton before leaving for Clemson. He has coached at Old Dominion and Radford as well. He is...Read Full Story

CLEMSON'S OGLESBY LEAVING FOR EUROPEAN PRO BALL

By equisort1 on  From todaysaccheadlines.com
Clemson sophomore guard Terrence Oglesby stunned head coach Oliver Purnell Tuesday by telling him that he was leaving the Tigers' program, signing with an agent and heading to play in Europe, Purnell told ESPN.com. Oglesby didn't declare for the NBA draft (because he wouldn't get drafted) but will forego the final two seasons of his eligibility by becoming a pro in Europe. Oglesby, who has a duel citizenship with a Norwegian passport, can play as a European instead of an American (which means...Read Full Story

OLIVER PURNELL ALREADY LOOKS WORRIED

By equisort1 on  From todaysaccheadlines.com
Just one day removed from Clemson, new Depaul head coach Oliver Purnell already looks worried (either that or simply made uncomfortable by the weird looking mascot). It seems fair to note that the Blue Demons shot 308-529 or 58.2% from the free throw line last season as opposed to Purnell’s Tigers who shot 432-654 or 66.1%… No wonder he looks worried.Read Full Story
