Both men and women compete in archery at the Olympic games. Both have the same size targets, and stand teh same distance from their target, 70 meters. The score for each arrow is determined by how close the arrow is to the center of the target it hits. A score of 10 is given for htting the target directly in the center.

The competition is made up of two formats, individual and team. Individual consists of 64 archers, competing in both the men's and women's competition. A preliminary round is held to seed the archers, in which each archer shoots 72 arrows.

In the first three rounds of the individual competition archers shoot 18 arrows in groups of three, the archer with the higher combined score in each round advances.

In the final three rounds, quarterfinals, semifinals and medal matches, the archers shoot 12 arrows.

In the team competition each country selects three archers from the individual competition. The scores form the individual rounds are added to seed the teams in a single elimination bracket. This competition consists of matches, where each team fires 27 arrows, with the archers alternating.
