Both men and women compete the Olympics athletics competition, in a similar set of events.

Men compete in 24 events, while women compete in 23. Also, the hurdles in the women's events are changed from 100m, for the men, to 100m.

The events are divided into four sections, track events, field events, combined events and road events.


Track Events
Sprints: 100m, 200m, 400m
Middle Distance: 800m and 1,500m
Long Distance: 5,000m and 10,000m
Hurdling: 100m and 400m for women/110m and 400m for men
Relays: 4x100m, 4x400m
3,000m Steeplechase

Long Jump
Triple Jump
High Jump, Pole Vault
Discus
Shot Put
Javelin Throw
Hammer Throw

Combined Events
Men's Decathlon: 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m, 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m
Women's Heptathlon: 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin and 800m

United States Finalizes Olympic Track & Field Roster
