The equestrian competition is competed in by both men and women at the Olympic games, by both individuals and teams. There are are three events competed in for both teams and individuals.

Dressage
A country may enter up to three qualified athletes for the team competition. Qualification for the individual competition is based on the FEI Olympic Riders Ranking as of May 1, 2008.

Jumping
A country may enter up to four qualified athletes for the team competition, if the country des not qualify they may enter up to two. For the individual, qualified riders are chosen by the FEI Olympic Riders Ranking as of May 1, 2008.

Eventing
A country may enter up to five qualified athletes for the team competition, if the country did not qualify, they can only enter two athletes. For the Individual competition, qualification is decided by the FEI Olympic Riders Ranking as of May 1, 2008.
