Olympic Synchronized Swimming

The synchronized swimming competition at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics will take place from August 18 to August 23 at the Beijing National Aquatics Center.

The synchronized swimming competition at the Olympic games is competed in by only women, in duet and team events.

The host nation may qualify one team automatically, while the remaining spots in both the team and duet categories are decided by qualifying events and tournaments.

Medals will be awarded in the categories of duet and team synchronized swimming.

(BEIJING, August 20) -- Anastasia Davydova and Anastasia Ermakova (RUS) lived up to their No.1 ranking, winning their third Olympic gold medal in Synchronized Swimming, at the National Aquatics Center on August 20. The results mirrored the Melbourne 2007 World Championships with the top eight teams finishing in the same order. Davydova and Ermakova, who won Duet and Team gold at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, were Beijing gold favorites. Binghamton University is currently hosting the world’s largest Synchronized Swimming Championships. The 2008 Esynchro Age Group National Championships kicked off June 28th and runs through July 5th. The U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team will perform an exhibition, to show off their anticipated Olympic Games routines, on Tuesday, July 1st at 8 p.m. in Binghamton’s West Gym. All this talk of 2016 had us thinking: if/when we get the Olympics, what sports will we go see? Sure, there's basketball and track & field. But what about the smaller sports? Handball! Field Hockey! Badminton! We're so in. And then one thought led to another and here we are thinking of synchronized swimming and what is probably the most underrated Saturday Night Live skit of all time (NBC doesn't even have an official clip of it in their SNL...

Christina Jones knew she wanted to be a synchronized swimmer from the young age of six. When her mom took her to a Santa Clara Aquamaids Synchronized Swimming show, she was hooked. Since then she's recieved more than a handful of honors including being named the 2006 U.S. Synchronized Swimming AThlete of the Year and a five-time national team member, all before the age of 21.

But this summer she'll embark on a totally new journey, she'll make her first appearance in the Olympic synchronized swimming competition at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games . Watch her and partner Andrea Nott take on some of the best in the world, and follow their progress throughout the games.
