The triathlon competition at the Olympics is competed in by both men and women individually. Eight National Olympic Committees may enter a maximum of three eligible athletes per event, all other NOCs may enter up to two eligible athletes per event.

The triathlon consists of a single race, where competitors swim a distance of 1,500 m cycle for 40 km and run 10 km to the finish line. There is a seperate competition for men and a seperate one for women.
