Water polo at the Olympics is competed in by both men and women. The men's tournament will feature 12 teams, seperated into two groups of six teams. The teams get weeded out through Classification rounds, then quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

The women's tournament is done in the same format, except it will feature eight teams, seperated into two groups of four teams.
