Omar al-Bashir
Omar al-Bashir is a military leader in Sudan. He has been in control of the country since 1989 and has been highly criticized for the role he has played during the Darfur conflict.
Sudan allows 4 expelled aid groups back
The U.N. humanitarian chief says the Sudanese government is allowing four aid organizations expelled from the country in March to return under slightly different names.
John Holmes says CARE, Save The Children, and Mercy Corps will be resuming their humanitarian work in Darfur and PADCO will resume its work in three areas along Sudan's disputed north-south border.
Sudan ordered 10 of the largest international aid organizations to leave the country in early March after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for President Omar al-Bashir for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Darfur conflict.
Holmes said Thursday, after briefing the U.N. Security Council Thursday, he welcomes the government's announcement that aid organizations can register to carry our humanitarian work in Sudan.
