TM Net was established in 1995 by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (which eventually transformed into TM Berhad) as part of Malaysia National Broadband Plan. It was at first started on a trial between TMnet to COINS.
The first commercial trial of xDSL by TM was done by means of a service known as HiS that was deployed together with Ericsson in 1999.
The original Streamyx broadband internet service was released in April 2001 at speeds of 384kbps.

Right now the Malaysian internet infrastructure have been identified as not meeting the latest requirements as essential by basic web applications such as YouTube, Skype and thus concludes that Malaysia may not eventually reap the gains of broadband internet. On another note, the deployment of High Speed Broadband Project is hope to to overcome this concern.
