BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Michigan (Reuters) - General Motors Co showed off the first battery pack for its electric Chevy Volt on Thursday with a ceremony that highlighted the automaker's dependence on U.S. government financing for its revival plans. GM, which emerged from bankruptcy in July with some $50 billion in U.S. taxpayer funding, is counting on the Volt and other fuel-efficient vehicles to revive its lineup as it rushes to win back U.S. consumer trust and return to profitability after five consecutive years of losses. General Motors made its first mass-produced electric car battery Thursday as it gears up to sell the new Chevrolet Volt to the general public later this year. The lithium-ion battery was made at GM's Brownstown Battery Pack Assembly Plant that will produce the batteries for the automaker's Volt assembly line in Detroit. Regular production at both facilities is expected to begin in the fourth quarter. Several flash drive manufacturers recently issued warnings about a flaw which could allow an attacker to access encrypted data on a supposedly secure USB drive. Secure flash drives utilize 256-bit AES hardware-based encryption to protect sensitive information. The vulnerability, which affects certain secure Kingston, SanDisk and Verbatim flash drives, is present in the mechanism used to verify an individual's password.“A skilled person with the proper tools and physical access to the drives may be able to gain unauthorized access to data contained on [certain] Kingston Secure USB drives,” Kingston said in an advisory on its website. Web communications company Skype said Tuesday that new Internet-enabled, high-definition televisions from Panasonic of Japan and South Korea's LG will feature Skype voice and video calling. The Skype-enabled HDTVs will be available in the middle of the year and when combined with new HD webcams will "allow people to communicate from the comfort of their living rooms," Skype said.
