When I compiled the OpenOffice.org Strategic Marketing Plan for the Community back in 2004, I wrote on the back cover: What do you do if you have a product that’s as good as anything on the market, but you want to give it away? And what if your major competitor already has a virtual monopoly in the market, and spends between $5,000-$10,000 million per annum on advertising? With cento milioni downloads this year, OpenOffice.org hasn’t done too...

One of Santa's duties at our house is system administration, Ubuntu, XP, Vista, and OpenSolaris. Why doesn't the OpenOffice (version 3.1) spell checker work on the OpenSolaris PC? It turns out the dictionary was packaged wrong in OpenSolaris. This affects US English. I don't know if there are similar problems for other languages. See openoffice.org for the problem report and solution. It's an easy fix. In OpenOffice go into Tools -> Extension...

I’m happy to announce OpenOffice.org 3.2 rc1 packages for openSUSE. They are available in the Build Service OpenOffice:org:UNSTABLE project and include many upstream and Go-oo fixes. See also overview of integrated features and enhancements. Please, look for more details about the openSUSE OOo build on the wiki page. The packages are release candidates. Though, they have not passed the full QA test and might still include even serious bugs...
