Oprah Winfrey is one of the highest paid and most watched TV celebrities of all times. According to Wikipedia: Oprah Winfrey, is an American multiple- Emmy Award winning host of The Oprah Winfrey Show, the highest rated talk show in television history. She is also an influential book critic, an Academy Award -nominated actress, and a magazine publisher. According to Forbes magazine, she was the richest African American of the 20th century and the world's only Black billionaire for three straight years. Life magazine has ranked her as the most influential woman of her generation and Time magazine has ranked her as one of only four people to have shaped both the 20th century and the early 21st. In 2005, Business Week ranked her as the greatest Black philanthropist in American history.
Oprah Winfrey School Trial Postponed
The trial of Tiny Virginia Makopo, a former dorm matron at Oprah Winfrey's school in South Africa, was postponed on Monday because her lawyer successfully argued that he needed more time to consult with his client.
Makopo is accused of abusing students at Winfrey's school for disadvantaged girls. Magistrate Thelma Simpson agreed to a request made by Makopo's attorney and said a new trial date will likely take place in July. The exact date will be set during a provisional hearing on Friday.
Prosecutor Etienne Venter expressed frustration with the delay, saying the state was prepared to begin the trial.
"We can't keep on dragging and dragging the case," he said.
Makopo has pleaded not guilty to charges of indecent assault, assault and criminal injury. Police say the alleged abuse against six teenage students and a fellow dormitory matron took place over four months.
On Monday, Makopo tried to hide her face in a maroon towel as she entered the courthouse, but a policewoman yanked it away. Makopo then pulled her jacket hood low over her eyes.
"I can't talk to a faceless person," Simpson said as she ordered her to remove the hood.
