Holiday craft sales, art fairs and Christmas bazaars are a time-honored tradition for procrastinating gift-givers. The holiday craft shows are typically sponsored by churches, clubs or high schools and are often some sort of fund-raiser for the sponsoring organization. Christmas bazaars and holiday craft sales offer yummy foodstuffs and homemade crafts, art and photography at cut-rate prices. Get the best deals at holiday craft shows- and avoid the crowds- by showing up on the first day of the sale. If you can manage it, take off on a Friday to visit the Christmas bazaars and show up early; you should have most of your ... Read Full Story

We have seen the donut but have not tried it so here is a review from Roadfood. Being a serious coffee city, it makes sense that Portland is also home to many excellent breakfast pastries. You’ll find some of the best, and most unusual at Voodoo Doughnut . We were tipped off to this place by Roadfood.com user Mr. Chips, who described it as a “great place to view Portland’s strong Goth culture as well as sample tasty donuts.” There is a strong counter-culture ambience to this bakery that looks a little like an after-hours club; whether or not it’s Goth, we cannot say. ... She pulled out guidebooks and postcards to ... Read Full Story

Hawthorne District, Portland, Oregon " Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. " -Dave Barry The Neighbor loves exploring. She and her husband spend a lot of time traveling and love the adventure. She will have to admit though, that Portland has some of the best little neighborhoods in the world. I followed her advise yesterday when my daughter and I had lunch in the Hawthorne District on the east side of the river. Believe it ... Read Full Story

You're probably wondering why it's been a bit quiet around here around Slice lately. Well, I'm on a crazy mission. I'm eating pizza in various western states this week on a whirlwind trip of five cities. Seriously, it's been nonstop travel with barely time to offload pics from my cameras. I'm just now catching up. Ken's Artisan Pizza (top) is in a quiet residential neighborhood in Southeast Portland, a couple blocks south of Burnside and...

Fellow KC Gardeners - I have been lucky to spend the last week in Portland. What a gardeners paradise!. Trees sky high and everything grows likes weeds. This was my first time here and I saw so many interesting processes from hops to grass seed production. I look forward to sharing more of my travels over the coming weeks.
