Minimalistic Stress Reduction

By theminimalist on  From minimalisticlifestyle.blogspot.com
Most of us are pretty organized at work. We walk in, check over our emails, create a list of things we need to get accomplished, enter deadlines into our planners, etc. As we all know, if we fail to do these things, we will certainly hear about it. (Oh, sorry I forgot about that meeting doesn't cut it at work.) Yet, it is all too easy to feel like we've had enough of this ultra organization by the time we get home and just want to relax, as if our personal lives would just flow along without...Read Full Story

The Minimalist's Desk

By theminimalist on  From minimalisticlifestyle.blogspot.com
Even though I am a minimalist, I have a lot to keep track of. I keep books for my family's construction company and our real estate investment company. I also paint and play the guitar. All of these activities can cause a cluttered mess to occur really quickly. I have a real office but it has been taken over by my new art print hobby. So, I decided to make use of a rather clever space. Here it is: Don't see it? No it's not the wicker box. Thant holds the all the remotes. Here's my office! Yep...Read Full Story

Why do we keep stuff?

By theminimalist on  From minimalisticlifestyle.blogspot.com
I am amazed when I see what some other people feel are their "treasures:" Little League baseball trophies, childhood games and toys, tools they never use, broken things they'll never fix, a breadbox? Anyone using a breadbox hasn't read my blog about how valuable counter space is! I helped a friend move recently and he put as much stuff into the garage as he did the house! I do have a few good ideas why people keep such things. I think they tie them to someone who gave them to them or someone...Read Full Story

Boxes

By gwenyth on  From goodhealthbooks.blogspot.com
I've just spent an hour clearing about fifty cardboard boxes out of our garage. A friend at work is moving at the end of the month and needs boxes--a great reason for me to excavate the back wall of the garage, where boxes get stowed. I think they multiply in the dark. My car is full of boxes to take to work tomorrow, and the too-small boxes are flattened to go out with the recycling. For a few months we'll have extra room in the garage, until the boxes multiply again. Thinking about my...Read Full Story

Feng Shuing My Life

By SadieLane on  From sadielane.blogspot.com
Or should it be fenging shui? My husband and I are closing (fingers crossed) on a home next week and we’ve started throwing things away. Purging brings a sort of high that I need to reconcile with my packratish tendencies. When my grandfather had moved to Florida, along with a free, temporary home, we also inherited the responsibility of organizing and disposing of the clutter left behind. My grandfather is a product of the Depression, and my grandmother used this reasoning to make sense of...Read Full Story

What does your closet look like?

By oneorganizedlife on  From oneorganizedlife.wordpress.com
More often than not, when I tell someone I am an organizer, they will ask me, “Alaia, what does YOUR closet look like? You must be super organized.” And I tell them the truth. It’s not what you’d expect. My place doesn’t look like the cover of Real Simple Magazine . I don’t want it to. It’s a personal preference. My clothes are very loosely organized. One small closet (smaller than a hall closet) holds dresses and long coats. The other closet I have doesn’t go from floor to ceiling, so I...Read Full Story
