...So after hearing Rick Peterson wax poetic about how Orlando Hernandez' signature leg kick was not what made him so good, it turns out that he was completely wrong. Yesterday El Duque looked somewhat similar to the guy we've seen in the past, ditching the other wind up that made him look like a robot and throw 72mph. It seems as though no one but Hernandez knew that was coming, which is just another example of how El Duque beats to his own drum. I'd love to see someone else in the 5th starter role, but as of right now he's the best option. ... Read Full Story

...Another great article from Mets.com: For as long as he has been a big league pitcher, and while he was pitching in Cuba as well, Orlando Hernandez has been all about deception -- the exaggerated leg kick, hiding his pitches, the occasional sidearm sling and the rare Bugs Bunny changeup. And most folks in the game believe numerical information on El Duque's birth certificate to be fictional. It is with that record of deception in mind that the latest episode of Hernandez's second Mets spring outing must be viewed. Caution and at least a dozen grains of salt must be used if a conclusion ... Read Full Story

...Another great article from Newsday: Once again, the No. 5 spot in the rotation was under the microscope Saturday as Orlando Hernandez and Mike Pelfrey both took the mound in very different situations. Hernandez, the favorite, spent another morning trying to adjust to his revamped delivery and pitched what was supposed to be a simulated game -- with no hitters. That made the session a little short on tangible results, other than seeing Hernandez flip through his repertoire of breaking pitches and show more velocity on his fastball than he had previously. That's what has been passing for progress with Hernandez, who reported no ... Read Full Story

In 2008, you'll recall, the Mets let Willie Randolph dangle on the precipice of removal, take a flight to the West Coast, manage one game in Anaheim and then fired him (announcing it, infamously, after 3:00 AM Eastern time). It all seemed pretty shabby. Not quite eighteen months later, the New Jersey Nets, off to a potentially historic bad start, have fired their head coach, Lawrence Frank, with one game remaining on a punishing West Coast...

With the Winter Meetings already underway, Mets GM Omar Minaya (or according to some, Jeff Wilpon in disguise) is faced with the daunting task of building a World Series-contending team for 2010. Aside from the obvious needs of a left fielder and a top-of-the-rotation starting pitcher, Minaya has made it clear that the team will be looking to upgrade at second base. This past week, there have already been rumblings about a potential deal that...

Jerry Manuel has stated this week that his core players will likely not recognize many of their teammates next year, and I'm sure that is the case, but you do have to wonder who of the core players will be on the team this spring. Carlos Delgado is coming off hip surgery and has had several setbacks, so his return to everyday lineup is not at all guaranteed. The coming months will determine his readiness.  If Delgado cannot play every day, he...

Dylan Hernandez, in a report for the Los Angeles Times, expects that Manny Ramirez will exercise his $20 million option with the Dodgers. In addition, Hernandez believes that second baseman Orlando Hudson and pitcher Randy Wolf will not return to Los Angeles and will leave as free agents. …Hudson’s name is obviously going to be mentioned, but [...]
