Braces
Okay, time to post a blog again.
My oldest son, K -- age 15, got his top braces put on on Tuesday. I thought that he was the first in our immediate family to have braces but I got an email back from my stepmom saying that she had to wear braces when she was young.
Anyway.
He's doing okay. I noticed how they were new to him at first especially on the inside of his lips and cheeks. I didn't notice as much today, but my wife said that his mouth was a little sore today after school.
We had been delaying this for awhile, and it took awhile for him to get good enough at brushing for the orthodontist's office to be satisfied, but by his last checkup in February he was doing okay. Unfortunately when they went to put the braces on this month (May) I guess that he had slacked off a bit again. Between us and the orthodontist's office, we've tried to explain that we're doing this for him and not for us or anyone else and so he'll have to be the one to take responsibility for keeping his teeth clean. However since I'm paying such a large chunk of change for his benefit, I'm going to do my best to reinforce the importance of keeping his teeth in good condition.
