An Ohio woman died after being knocked into the ocean by heavy surf off Hatteras Island during the recent nor'easter on the Outer Banks.
Paul Stevens, chief ranger with the National Park Service Outer Banks Group, said Wednesday that the woman had reportedly been walking on sandbags Sunday when a wave swept her into the water.

RODANTHE (AP) — The National Park Service says a California man has drowned after being caught in a rip current on the Outer Banks.The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk reported that 50-year-old Keith M. Goldstein of San Francisco drowned Friday afternoon when he was caught in the dangerous surf off Mirlo Beach. Chief Ranger Paul Stevens of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore says Goldstein and two other people were caught in the surf.read more

A park with a go-kart track proposed for Corolla has drawn opposition from residents there who say it would bring a Myrtle Beach-type atmosphere.

A 15-year-old teenager from the Wilmington area drowned Friday while surfing at the Outer Banks.
The teenage boy was surfing with a group of eight other teenagers on Hatteras Island when the current dragged him into Avon Fishing Pier sometime around 11:30 a.m., said Bob Helle, the assistant chief with the Hatteras Island Rescue Squad.
