Thirty-eight people have been charged with attempting a coup last week in the west African island nation of Sao Tome and Principe, judicial sources said Tuesday. All those charged were presented on Monday and Tuesday in court, with the judge ordering that 27 of them, including Arlecio Costa, head of the opposition Christian Democratic Front (FDC), be held in custody, a lawyer for several of the accused, Levy Nazare, said.
