A community portal about PCI Express with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: PCI Express, abbreviated officially with PCIe and which should not be mistaken for PCI-X, is an implementation of the PCI connection standard that uses existing PCI programming concepts, but bases it on a completely different and much faster full duplex, multi-lane, point to point serial physical-layer communications protocol. PCI Express was formerly known as Arapaho or 3GIO for 3rd Generation I/O.

There is a high degree of ambiguity among retail organizations regarding how to comply with certain requirements of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). There are, however, some PCI DSS sections that provide merchants with crystal-clear direction on how to achieve compliance. Among the straightforward sections is 8.3, which requires regulated merchants to govern employee and third-party remote access to corporate networks by using two-factor authentication.Two-factor authentication requires users to authenticate to the network using two separate identification factors. These factors are typically something that only the user would know, such as a user-defined password, and something only the user would ... Read Full Story

It seems like everyone (including this author) today has an opinion on the value of the PCI DSS and the card brand programs. In March, 2009 Congress held hearings on the standard and there are a number of companies that make a living from the program. Regardless of people’s view of the PCI DSS, my own experience has led me to believe that something is needed to secure the data in our industry. There are basically two approaches to solving the problem of increasing data compromises.First of all,is the traditional compliance/risk management. This assumes that a merchant has the data and must therefore secure ... Read Full Story

The merchant account industry is in turmoil right now relating to the PCI-DSS fees that just about everyone is currently experiencing. I would like to make an analysis of why we are all seeing these fees and how this whole situation came about. Just to dispel any hopes that these might be going away soon, they’re not. If anything, PCI is going to get much stricter, as congress has openly stated that PCI-DSS is not nearly enough . How did we get to this point? The entire PCI-DSS concept materialized about 5 years ago when Visa created PCI and MasterCard created a program called ... Read Full Story

By Danny Lieberman , Security Expert and Founder of Software Associates I recently saw a post from a blog on a corporate web site from a company called Cloud compliance, entitled Is Compliance is the New Security Standard . Cloud Compliance provides a SaaS-based identity and Access Assessment (IdAA) solution that helps identify and remediate access control and entitlement policy violations. We combine the economies of cloud computing with fundamental performance management principles to provide easy, low cost analysis of access rights to prevent audit findings (sic) and ensure compliance with regulations such as SOX, GLBA, PCI DSS, HIPAA and NERC. With ever-increasing network traffic, bottlenecks are inevitable in the existing parallel, multi-drop architecture of the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus and its second-generation version, the PCI Extended (PCI-X) bus. Today, those bottlenecks can be alleviated with the much higher performance of the thirdgeneration PCI Express* architecture. This white paper provides an overview of the new PCI Express bus architecture and the...
