No need to stick to a basic solid color for you walls if you don't want to. For one thing, using two tones allows you to use bright colors without causing the room to look too saturated. Check out some pictures:


These blue and white vertical stripes create an sort of nautical theme.


I love how the crown molding is the cutoff for the paint colors in this room, creating a cool balance.


In this living room, the lower half is a darker color while the upper half is white, and the line is in the middle of the wall. Thus, the darker shade contrasts nicely with the white sofa.


I love this look, with three thin black stripes halfway up the wall. It's a great way to add interest while keeping the look minimalist and clean.


This thick, black yellow stripe in the middle of the coral walls creates a similar effect, and the lighter shade helps so that the room doesn't drown in the brighter color.
