Dawood’s brother Anees detained?

Brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Anees Ibrahim, has reportedly been detained at the Jeddah Airport in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday (August 12). Anees was detained for allegedly carrying a fake passport. According to sources, both the Indian Embassy in Jeddah and the city’s Interpol has been alerted to the possible detention of Anees.

Rakesh Maria, joint police commissioner (crime), speaking on the three arrested at jeddah airport, said, “We have to confirmation about who the three who are detained at Jeddah airport are. We are trying to confirm this and know the purpose of they being detained.”

CBI approaches Saudi authority

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday (August 12) approached the Saudi Arabian authorities to verify reports about the detention in that country of Anees Ibrahim, brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

The CBI query follows reports that Anees, against whom an Interpol Red Corner notice was issued at the instance of the CBI, has been detained at the Jeddah airport. “We have approached the Saudi authorities telephonically as well as through other modes of communications,” a senior CBI official said.

Anees had been detained earlier in Dubai in 2002 after which he was bailed out and deported back to Pakistan despite CBI sending an extradition request on the ground that he was one of the main conspirators of Mumbai blasts. Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the authorities are trying to ascertain the veracity of the report of his detention.

Anees is wanted by the CBI for his involvement in the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai. CBI had also mentioned Anees’ involvement in bringing youths to Dubai and later sending them to Karachi for training.

The youths, after being trained in Karachi were, also received by Anees and later shifted to Mumbai for carrying out the gruesome attacks on selected places in the country. Besides his involvement in the Mumbai blasts, Anees was also wanted in nearly 70 cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, kidnapping for ransom pending against him in several states.

Anees was detained by Dubai authorities in 1996 but was later let off for want of evidence. He was again arrested in Bahrain in the late 90s but was later shifted to Dubai, from where he was released. Anees also figures in the much talked of list of 20 criminals and terrorists handed over to Pakistan by the previous NDA government. 

According to a dossier prepared on D-company, five brothers and three sisters of Dawood are running his multi-million-rupee empire from Dubai. It thrives mainly on extortion, contract killings, kidnappings, drug pushing and counterfeiting currency.

His inner circle includes brother Noora Kaskar alias Noor-ul-Haq. Noora Kaskar is Dawood’s younger brother. He has three extortion cases pending against him in Mumbai all related to extortion. He is supposed to be the D-gang’s point person for Bollywood.

Iqbal Kaskar, another brother of Dawood, is booked under MCOCA and given bail in connection with a land grab in Mumbai in 2007.

Haseena Parker, Dawood’s sister, is infamous as Haseena Appa in the D-gang circles, and was let off on bain in extortion and forgery cases in 2007.
