Karachi: 6 Injured In Student Bodies Clash
KARACHI: At least six people were injured in a clash between two student organizations here Sunday.
The incident occurred at Government Swedish Polytechnic Institute, situated at Shah Latif Town of Quaidabad, where activists of a student body allegedly opened fire on the workers of their rival organization, leaving at least six injured including four students, a reporter and a cameraman of a private news TV channel.
Some one thousand students and teachers were besieged in the institute due to the intense firing, as the entry-test for the admissions of new batch was underway in the institute at the moment.
Later, heavy contingent of police and rangers arrived to control the situation and freed the besieged students and teachers.
The injured of the incident were brought to Jinnah Hospital, after which scores of students and activists of a student organization rushed there.
Sindh Minister for Information Shazia Marri and former MPA and Jamaat-i-Islami leader Nasarullah Shajee visited the hospital and inquired the health of the injured.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh taking stern notice of the clash at Swedish Institute suspended the SHO of Quaidabad Police Station. He also ordered to probe into the incident.
Moreover, Rabita Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has condemned the clash between two student organizations at Swedish Institute and demanded for immediate arrests of the responsible.
