A transcontinental country, its isthmus constitutes the southernmost part of a natural land bridge between the continents of North America and South America. It borders Costa Rica to the northwest, Colombia to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south.
5.0 Earthquake This Morning Near Panama - Costa Rica Border
By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale shook the area near the border between Panama and Costa Rica at 6:04 am local time. The earthquake was centered at 8.394°N, 82.822°W or 45 km (25 miles) W of David, Panama, 45 km (30 miles) SE of Golfito, Costa Rica, 120 km (75 miles) SSW of Bocas del Toro, Panama, 370 km (230 miles) W of PANAMA CITY, Panama. Normally a 5.0 quake is easily felt by those living close to the epicenter, but little or no damage is done. These "little" earthquakes are generally considered to be a good thing, in that they represent a release of built up pressure and tension between neighboring tectonic plates.
