Panda Twins Born in China

These baby pandas are without a doubt the most adorable animals I have ever seen. I'm pretty sure I had a stuffed animal when I was five that could have been their triplet. They look so soft and cuddly that it makes it impossibly tragic that they are a species with a dwindling population.

According to the Daily Mail, giant pandas are known for being sexually inactive. Combine that with the fact that their habitat is shrinking (due to the earthquake that destroyed part of south west China), and the numbers are pretty grim: around 1,590 pandas living in China today.

The twins were delivered at the Bifengcia base of the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Yaan, in the Sichuan Province, which has been the birthplace of 13 pandas this year. Following the traditional Chinese custom, the centre held a naming ceremony for the twin cubs 100 days after their birth.

The centre's hope is to help the Giant panda population by breeding them in captivity and ultimately reintroducing them to their natural habitat. I sincerely hope they succeed, because then we can start seeing more of this:
