Comments are what makes the blogs go 'round. Seriously. If it weren't for comments, I'd wonder if anyone was reading these words, although it probably wouldn't make one bit of difference. I would still feel compelled to put my thoughts and opinions down in writing since that's what us writers do. I was a bit concerned about yesterday's post . I didn't really expect anyone to comment since it was a pretty personal piece that touched on many different subjects, all relating to sex. Jared , my... Read Full Story
With the right programming, a television can provide entertainment and education for children. However, as we all know it contains a significant amount of negative images. Television violence, harsh language, and sexually explicit content as well as agressive marketing are prevalent. It's those types of images and messages which most professionals and parents wish to eliminate for young children.
Of course such violent content isn't confined just to television. Music, video games and more... Read Full Story
One of the ineffective parenting roles James Lehman talks about in the Total Transformation is the over-negotiator. Here’s how that manifests itself in our house. It is hard to set reasonable rules for our family. And even harder when I try to enforce them that I meet the “master negotiator”. You know what I am talking about, the kid who likes to put his toe over the line. Wants to just see where you will budge. It is the hardest to not give in too. I like to not always be a “no” mom, so I... Read Full Story
Should children witness childbirth? Good question. Here’s your answer. Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call. The house was very dark so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-yr old girl to hold a flashlight high over her mommy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby. Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked. Heidi pushed and pushed and after a little while, Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and spanked him on his bottom... A little boy got on the bus, sat next to a man reading a book, and noticed he had his collar on backwards. The little boy asked why he wore his collar that way. The man, who was a priest, said “I am a Father.” The little boy replied “My Daddy doesn’t wear his collar like that.” The priest looked up from his book and answered “I am the Father of many.” The boy said “My Dad has four boys, four girls and two grandchildren and he doesn’t wear his collar that way. I know as a teacher we are limited to praise for good behavior and consequences for poor behavior. So I had to give praise often, but also found that a reward system, such as a treasure chest prize at the end of the day or week (depending on age level) worked to keep the majority of students motivated and well behaved. by (satrapi) Many times just keeping or earning their star back for the day Read Full Story

I don’t want to have kids. Maybe I’m missing some crucial motherly instinct, maybe I’m selfish and self-centered. But that’s how it is. At the same time, I’m baffled by some parents, who seem to have no problem taking their children to all sorts of places, as if they’re just another bag of shopping they’re carrying along. (Except that mostly, the kids walk by themselves, rather than having to be carried.)
In India, I used to get annoyed when going to see a movie at the cinema. And in comes... Read Full Story
