While sitting in her booster seat having lunch, Ainsley spotted Dear Darling's cell phone on the buffet. She wanted it desperately but Dear Darling said "No." After all, she was eating lunch. Ainsley does not like hearing the word "No." After lunch was over, Dear Darling was in the nursery holding Cedar when he heard the wooden rocking horse galloping in the dining room. Actually, Ainsley had dragged the horse from the living room into the dining room. She mounted the horse, allowing her to... Read Full Story
. This is the last month that my baby girl is one year old. In one short month, we'll be throwing her second birthday party. She's much more aware of cake and presents now so she'll have much more fun at her party this year. In our house, the fun starts at 6:00 AM every day when Ainsley wakes. Unfortunately, she usually wakes Cedar, too. I suppose she's teaching him to be adaptable and that the early bird gets the worm. Every day is different but always active... Read Full Story
This morning, I heard Dear Darling say, "Ainsley, would you like to make some flapjacks?" "Flapjacks!" Ainsley shouted as she dragged a dining chair into the kitchen next to the island. Then, it occurred to me that Dear Darling was serious. Dear Darling's Uncle Rich sent a giftbox containing one package of huckleberry flapjack mix, a jar of huckleberry jam and a bottle of huckleberry syrup made in Kalispell, Montana. But, I'm sure even he knew who would be making the pancakes. I entered the... Read Full Story
Dear Darling and I took our city kids to see barnyard animals at the stock show. This was Ainsley's second trip to the stock show and Cedar's first. Ainsley enjoyed the petting zoo while Cedar liked the large livestock. It kind of makes you think twice about "What's for dinner." Read Full Story
Dear Darling stood in line at 3 AM to get the bears in a Parent's Day Out Program. Even worse, it was 3 AM on his birthday. Did I mention his birthday is in February? The universe smiled on him and at least gave him *warm* weather. Cedar was immediately accepted into the program but Ainsley was placed on a waiting list. However, she has a decent shot of getting into the program by Fall enrollment. (I could write several posts about the frustrating process of applying to Parent's Day Out... Read Full Story
Ainsley's lovey, Tigger, stinks. Since she's been sick, she's been chewing on his ears a lot for comfort. Wet stuffed animal fur has a very unpleasant smell. It's time to wash Tigger. Tonight at bedtime, Dear Darling tried to pull the old switcheroo. When Ainsley wasn't looking, he took Tigger to the laundry room and returned with "replacement Tigger." "Replacement Tigger" is the same stuffed animal, but not as worn as old Tigger. We've made the switch successfully several times, but not... Read Full Story
Ainsley woke up at 4 am this morning! Dear Darling went to check on her and found that her bed was wet even though her pajamas didn't seem to be. Nevertheless, she ended up in our bed. At 5 am, we were all still awake. Ainsley isn't used to sleeping with us, so back into her (clean) bed she went. Just as Dear Darling crawled back into bed, Cedar woke up crying. I went to get him and placed him in bed with us. Usually, snuggling makes Cedar happy. This time, he wanted to eat and wasn't going... Read Full Story
Yesterday, I spent a lot of time doing household chores and cooking so that I could enjoy a couple of days of "maintenance." It was nice to get the laundry done and not think about doing more until the end of the week. Or so I thought. Ainsley got sick last night and vomited in her bed. We changed her diaper, clothes and bed linens. We even changed out Tigger and Blanket. (Thank goodness for the new back up Tigger!) I had to go into Cedar's room to get a "Blanket" replacement, waking up Cedar... Read Full Story
What a weekend. Dear Darling was off on Friday, but we both had appointments. So, we've been taking turns taking care of Ainsley. She has a terrible cold and has been grouchy. Oscar the Grouch Grouchy. Cedar also has a runny nose and a rash. Poor babies. Dear Darling's employer sponsored a family event at the Museum of Nature and Science on Friday. We debated on going since Ainsley wasn't feeling well, but we knew she'd enjoy the museum. We managed to get through dinner without a fuss and... Read Full Story
I've been planning to write a post on breastfeeding but just haven't had time to articulate my thoughts, and believe me, I have a lot of them. Stay with me and I'll eventually get around it to it. So far, I only have a catchy title written. So while you're waiting around for me to share the juicy scoop, I'll go ahead and reveal the most important component: Boobs are magical. That's right, breasts are downright MAGICAL. The men are nodding their heads and the women are listening intently. If... Read Full Story
