A while back I started a huge debate over Evan Rachel Wood and her style. I said that she was a copy-cat version to the fabulous Dita von Teese. Many agreed and many of you did not. Those who did not agree informed us that she was sporting the dark hair, pale skin, ruby red lips look for a movie role. Well I say "boo" to that theory, because here she is post-break up from Marylin Manson, sporting lighter hair, not as pale skin and a dress that is not black. I think it is fair to say that... Elie Saab's Spring 2009 collection did not have a much bling as I always expect, but as usual it was a flawless collection. The colour palette consisted of lime green, lilac, violet and buttercup yellow, plus he also incorporated some prints. As ever the collection was dominated by red-carpet gowns (the reason why I love him so much). The dresses were either ultra short, or very long, with billowing trains. I loved the blue cocktail dresses with frilly hems, which also come in a similar lime... Read Full Story
I always think it’s fitting that Paris Fashion Week is the one that rounds out the ready-to-wear collections. Because they always live up to their reputation for fashion creativity, those French designers.
This year is no exception.
Most obviously, we’ve seen the insane 11 inch, heel-less (or functional heel-less) Nina Ricci shoes . But the other designers have stood up and brought their A games.
Olivier Theyskens wasn’t the only one playing around with fetish footwear inspirations... Read Full Story

Each fashion season, it’s always fun for me to see what the designers do to that shoe part called the heel. Paris Fashion Week tends to bring out the most beautiful and sometimes the most outlandish heels of all the fashion shows and Paris Spring 2009 was no exception. Here’s a quick retrospective of the heels. Which were your favorite?
John Galliano swirly metallic platform shoe
Alexander McQueen amber heel and tornado heel

Ah, a beautiful collection that mixed romanticism with Victorian design arcs, the Nina Ricci label this season gave a look that could send us all swooning! Dresses that trailed behind the models on the runway with a short front gave a sexy, lovely feel that felt more like a lovely couture show than anything prêt-a-porter. The casual trends are here, some translucent pieces that give a sweet, sexy peek to the feminine shape; dreamy, raised frills that look soft and feminine; black tights and... Read Full Story

Christian Dior: I enjoyed this collection, but not as much as I enjoy Dior couture. I'm not sure why I liked these looks, but they just strike me as beautiful. Nina Ricci: Olivier Theyskens knows glamour! These dresses were all so unexpected, enthralling, and new. It would take serious confidence to pull these off. Above: Victorian with a surprise! Above: The bright orange coat was a shock in this line, but it works with the dress. Above: Clearly, Theyskens is a fan of the asymmetrical hem... Read Full Story
