I must say there were plenty of surprises at the Grand Prix Final. I think I'm just going to be done predicting this season...I'm getting nowhere with it! Ice Dance was close at the top. Davis and White squeaked ahead in the Original Dance while Virtue and Moir slimly won the free skate. When the dust settled Meryl Davis and Charlie White held on by the skin of their teeth to take the win (and become the first American Team to do so!). In the Free Dance, Davis and White had the highest component score where Virtue and Moir had the highest technical score. ... Read Full Story

World champion figure skater Kim Yu Na enters the Grand Prix Final and hopes to dash anyone else hopes of winning the gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics. Kim is the favorite to win this year’s crown in Tokyo – which begins on Friday. She is also looking forward to her third GP Final title in four years. The South Korean superstar has her fair share of rivals too like Miki Ando, Joannie Rochette of Canada, Russia’s Alena Leonova, American Ashley Wagner, and Ando’s compatriot Akiko Suzuki. All of South Korea seemed to be celebrating figure skater Kim Yu-na's historic weekend win at the world championships, with her victory at the top of newscasts and newspapers carrying photos of "Queen Yu-na" on their front pages Monday. Kim, 18, is already a star in her native South Korea, with a slew of endorsements and TV commercials for everything from cosmetics and milk to air conditioners and laundry detergent. Her performance at the World Figure Skating Championships in Los Angeles on Saturday night brought the world to attention as well, with her commanding, skillful and graceful free skate to "Sheherezade" bringing the audience ... The Japan Skating Federation has denied that Japanese competitors intentionally obstructed South Korean figure skating star Kim Yu-Na in warm-ups before international contests. The denial, posed on the federation's website Thursday, comes amid a flap over comments by Kim about obstructed warm-ups ahead of her showdown with her Japanese rival Mao Asada at next week's world championships in Los Angeles. The federation said Japanese skaters "compete in keeping with sportsmanship and it is not true they have intentionally committed acts of obstruction." It added that it had not received any protest from the South Korean Skating Union or from Kim, or any warning from ... Read Full Story

I've been grappling with this for a couple of weeks. 210.03, the record breaking score Kim Yu-Na achieved at Trophy Eric Bompard...am I crazy for thinking that was high? First I took a Quick Poll and asked: "Do you believe Kim Yu-Na's record breaking score was appropriate for her performance at Grand Prix Paris?" Overwhelmingly (71%), respondents thought the score was appropriate. Of course the poll is unscientific, bias obviously plays a part, and my blog hits from Korea where up 247% during the time the poll was available. Nontheless, it became clear that many supported the score. I poured over the judges score ... Read Full Story
