ARLINGTON — Patrick Crayton lost two jobs in two weeks.  

Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware is suiting up for the game against unbeaten New Orleans. The Cowboys decided to let Ware dress for Saturday night's matchup at the Superdome. He was listed as questionable earlier this week after straining his neck in a headfirst collision last Sunday against San Diego.  

What a welcome back reward for Ken Hamlin. The Dallas Cowboys safety is getting back in the lineup just in time to go against the NFL's most productive offense. After missing four games because of a high right ankle sprain, Hamlin's return is expected to come Saturday night against the undefeated New Orleans Saints, who average 426 yards and 36 points a game.  

IRVING, Texas - Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware was back at practice Thursday, though the team was unclear about his status for Saturday night's game at New Orleans that will be less than a week after he strained his neck in a scary headfirst collision.  

As far as Drew Brees can tell, the season of giving in New Orleans started about 14 weeks ago. Brees and the Saints have given this football-mad city more tastes of victory than it has ever known in a single season. The fans have responded in their own way when the players drive home from games, windows down, to share in the excitement.  

Maybe the Dallas Cowboys' two straight losses in December have nothing to do with the calendar. Maybe they just aren't very good. That's one of the theories going around now that the playoffs are approaching and the Cowboys are retreating -- again. Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware was hospitalized Sunday night with a sprained neck, sustained when he slammed headfirst into a San Diego Chargers lineman. The Cowboys said Ware was "aware and alert with full movement and strength in his extremities" when he was taken off the field. He was transported to the hospital for X-rays and further evaluation.

Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett missed a second straight practice Thursday because of concussion-related symptoms. Two workers doing maintenance on the icy roof of towering Cowboys Stadium slipped and tumbled at least 50 feet Thursday morning before landing on a rain gutter. Authorities said both workers suffered "significant injuries." The two were working on the top hatch of the retractable-roof venue in suburban Arlington around 7:20 a.m.

When the Cowboys and Giants last met, Tony Romo was still making way too many mistakes and Miles Austin was an afterthought. That's certainly not the trend going into the rematch Sunday. Since having three passes caught by New York defenders in September, Romo has gone through the cleanest stretch of his career.

Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman and secondary coach Dave Campo had a brief physical confrontation on the sideline Sunday, though Campo and head coach Wade Phillips both downplayed the incident after Dallas' 7-6 victory over the Washington Redskins. Newman was coming off the field after a series in the first quarter when Campo tried to stop him.  

Before and after every snap, Tony Romo felt the throbbing in his back, the result of an accidental blow suffered while making a first-quarter tackle, of all things. While he could block out the pain during most plays, he couldn't stop it from affecting his throws -- at least, not until the game was on the line.  

Plastic surgery fixed the physical scars on Dallas Cowboys center Andre Gurode's forehead after he was cleated in the face by Albert Haynesworth three years ago. As for any lingering effects from that dirty play, Gurode says there are none as he prepares to face Haynesworth in a regular-season game for the first time since the incident.  

The Dallas Cowboys are planning to make a change on the offensive line to cover for injured right tackle Marc Colombo. Doug Free is expected to make his first career start Sunday against Washington in place of Colombo, who has started 57 consecutive games. Colombo had surgery Monday, a day after he broke his left leg and suffered ligament damage in his ankle against Green Bay.

Defensive end Marcus Spears lounged on a couch in the middle of the Dallas Cowboys locker room, his right leg draped over the side. Quarterback Tony Romo wasn't anywhere to be seen. Romo wasn't in the locker room when it was open to reporters Monday, when the Cowboys began preparing for a quick turnaround in part by trying to stay off their feet like Spears.
