Hollywood actor Patrick Swayze died on September 14th, 2009, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.  His publicist, Annett Wolf, issued a statement to the press confirming his passing.  "Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months".

Patrick Swayze was born on August 18th, 1952 in Houston, Texas.  He had a passion for the arts, especially dance, and studied at the Harkness Ballet and Joffrey Ballet schools in New York.  He got his start as a professional entertainer, through dance, as a performer for Disney on Parade.  His first major film role was as the older and more responsible brother of C. Thomas Howell and Rob Lowe in The Outsiders.  He went on to become a major Hollywood A-Lister with hit films Ghost and Dirty Dancing.

Patrick Swayze married Lisa Niemi on June 12th, 1975.  They remained married until the time of his death.  The couple never had children.

Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late January 2008.  He faught cancer with chemotherapy and other treatments at the Stanford University Medical Center.  In September 2009 he died from complications caused by the disease.
