The National Enquirer reports that the actor won't be able to visit his beloved New Mexico ranch due to his illness, which requires him to have medical assistance nearby at all times. Swayze recently suffered a mild heart attack and has been battling an intestinal infection as his body has gradually given in to the disease.
Swayze's long-time wife,
Lisa Niemi, has been by his side throughout his fight with cancer, but the two appear to be accepting the end.
Patrick's bodily functions appear to be shutting down," the insider divulged to The ENQUIRER. "But he recently told Lisa, 'I refuse to die in a hospital room. I'll go on my own terms - in our home and in my own bed.'
"He's terrified of being admitted to the hospital because he feels that he'd never come out alive.
"Patrick comes in for regular treatments. But the treatments leave him so physically drained that when he leaves, it's often in a wheelchair. Patrick, who was spotted smoking while filming
The Beast in 2008, told
Barbara Walters he has seriously cut back on the habit, though he hasn't quit. "I will go so far as to say probably smoking had something to do with my pancreatic cancer," he said.
