Since I wrote my Christmas message yesterday I wanted to share today a column before I forget. Off to last minute wrapping and the treadmill. Merry Christmas! Last week's Wall Street Journal column by Peggy Noonan illustrated the decline of the American culture in the minds of Americans-and in reality. The Adam Lambert show at the AMA last month was a joke and Noonan addresses it and more: The Adam Lambert Problem By PEGGY NOONAN WSJ Dec. 19th 2009 The news came in numbers and the numbers were fairly grim, all the grimmer for being unsurprising. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll reported this ... Read Full Story

Mr. Lambert’s act left viewers feeling not just offended but assaulted… I don’t mean to make too much of it. In the great scheme of things a creepy musical act doesn’t matter much. But increasingly people feel at the mercy of the Adam Lamberts, who of course view themselves, when criticized, as victims of prudery and closed-mindedness. America is not prudish or closed-minded, it is exhausted. It cannot be exaggerated, how much Americans feel besieged by the culture of their own country, and to what lengths they have to go to protect their children from it. via Peggy Noonan: The Adam Lambert Problem – ... I’ve jotted down some highlights from this expansive, important discussion via Morning Joe that gives you an over-arching feel for what Obama’s real problems are, particularly Peggy Noonan’s brilliant differentiation between the spirit of 2008 and the hard realities of 2009, which you’ll hear towards the beginning of the video. Later in the discussion, Peggy Noonan says this, and it encapsulates what is wrong with the Obama presidency: “He had a wasted first year. He was on one topic, and America was on another topic.” Visit msnbc.com for breaking news , world news , and news about the economy Here are a few more ... Read Full Story

Those Who Make Us Say 'Oh!' A tribute to America's war heroes, past and present. By PEGGY NOONAN More than most nations, America has been, from its start, a hero-loving place. Maybe part of the reason is that at our founding we were a Protestant nation and not a Catholic one, and so we made "saints" of civil and political figures. George Washington was our first national hero, known everywhere, famous to children. When he died, we had our first true national mourning, with cities and states re-enacting his funeral. There was the genius cluster that surrounded him, and invented us—Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Hamilton. ... Read Full Story

more animals DID YOU HEAR WHAT PEGGY NOONAN AND JOHN McCAIN CAMPAIGN AIDE MIKE MURPHY WERE SAYING ABOUT McCAIN'S PRESIDENTIAL PICK SARAH PALIN on NBC the other night, live and on camera ? If not, here's the actual unexpurgated segment, thanks to YouTube (and, ultimately, MoveOn.org): Not to mention a transcript of the proceedings, With Necessary Omissions: Mike Murphy, former McCain advisor: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state governor work. In the Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan contemplates the “decline in American optimism,” as evidenced by polls saying that 55% of Americans believe the country to be on the “wrong track,” and 66% don’t think life will be better for their children than it has been for them. Now, Noonan is not one to go [...]365daynews.Com (subscribe) : The Adam Lambert Problem ...The Garlic (subscribe) : For A Minute, I Thought Peggy Noonan Was Coming Out...

Today we take another virtual ride to the great American city of Detroit. This time courtesy of the Wall Street Journal with an interview with that city's Mayor, David Bing:Dave Bing has just signed on to four years of maybe the most futile and thankless job in America: mayor of Detroit.
