Hard Rock Calling, the festival for those too urbanised to face a real one, doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a way of catching a gaggle of bands in the open air without having to camp. It may not offer the communal experience of Glastonbury – but does Glasto have luxury loos that provide “magazines and music in every toilet” for just £3 a visit?
On a sun-baked Friday, three-quid lavatories (non-luxury ones were still free) and corporate logos everywhere were the...Read Full Story
Yay! There's a new recording up this week from one of my favorite bands THE HIVES ! YOU KNOW YOU LOVE THE HIVES! It's a 2-minute blast called "A Thousand Answers", a song the band has played live as long ago as 2008. It was included the FIFA 12 soundtrack in Europe. And you can hear it below. Live version 2008: Other Hives news shows that singer Pelle Almqvist suffered a concussion in August when he "tried to fly too close to the sun" ( as he puts it on the band's site ). And there's not much...Read Full Story
On September 16th, The Hives headlined the night at Stubb’s BBQ. The two opening bands were The Willowz and Eagles Of Death Metal , who set the stage perfectly. Even some of the photographers got a feel from the audience of how rock n’ roll things where getting: one of them (me) was hit in the back with some random woman’s underwear. Jessy Hughes , lead...Read Full Story
Another fantastic night of fast, blazing, sweaty rock and roll action from The Hives in Tempe, AZ last night. So glad I could go and see the band turn a sort of lackluster crowd into raving fans by show end. ( photo by Dfactor ) ( photo by Dfactor ) Both singer Pelle Almqvist and guitarist Vigilante were said (by Pelle) to be suffering from fevers....although only Vigilante's proved to be true. His attempts at singing backups all night were but poorly-disguised cough sessions in the direction...Read Full Story

Howlin' Pelle Almqvist (born May 29, 1978 in Fagersta, Västmanlands län, Sweden) is the lead singer of Swedish garage rock band The Hives. Like the rest of the band, Almqvist ...
Show : The Hives at The Marquee on Sept. 19 . First, a correction on my review this evening. In panning Eagles of Death Metal - who truly were awful - I offhandedly dissed their new record, Heart On , which wasn't out at the time and sure seemed bad ...
