Guitarist Pete Townshend from rock band The Who has written a musical called Floss, which will open in New York in 2011. The rock opera apparently derives the style from their earlier work Tommy and Quadrophenia. The 64-year-old has revealed that his new work deals with issues affecting a man of his age and it will express his anger in true rock fashion. “As a 19-year-old with My Generation, I wrote the most explicitly ageist song in rock. At 64, I now want to take on ageing and mortality, using the powerfully angry context of rock ”n” roll,” The Sun quoted him as saying. ... Read Full Story

Image Source Pete Townshend , guitarist for The Who and certainly one of the most awesome living Rock Stars ever in the universe of all time, turns 64 today. I’m lucky enough (meaning that I am old enough now) to have seen The Who live in their prime before the death of Keith Moon . This was way back in March of 1976, at the Anaheim Stadium in Orange County, California where I grew up. I’d say that show is probably in the top three or four concert experiences of my life, and I do remember it was VERY LOUD, despite being held at ... Read Full Story

On May 7th something quiet but quite remarkable happened. Pete Townshend (63), guitarist of the band the WHO, was scheduled to have his Sexual Offender status dropped from the British Violent and Sex Offender Register (ViSOR). A confirmation of the action is pending. Mr. Townshend was arrested in January 2003 as part of Operation Ore, the largest investigation into child pornography in the UK. He admitted using his credit card to access child abuse images but claimed they were for "research" for a book in 1999. (Emphasis added by the Guardian Newspaper - see link below). Mr. Townshend was one of 1,600 people arrested ... Read Full Story

It was 40 years ago this week that Pete Townshend, guitarist for British band The Who talked to a then-young heterosexual music fan named Jann Wenner for his new music magazine Rolling Stone . In the interview, he speaks (at length!) on other musicians, The Who themselves, his 'complex' story of Tommy that was currently in his head, and more. Fascinating and exhausting stuff. No 15-second snippets here, my friends. With aging glasses on, it's fun to read about how Townshend somewhat callously regarded his band's output then, but today he and longtime Who partner Roger Daltrey speak about it in such rarified airs. ...       Just four lines into the LA stop on Roger Daltrey’s “Use It Or Lose It” solo tour - so named for the singer’s desire to keep his instrument in shape for a planned burst of activity from his “other” band, the Who, in the coming year - he seemed in danger of losing it. He was performing the rarely heard gem “Blue, Red and Grey”, originally sung by Who guitarist Pete Townshend in a near-falsetto, when he opened his mouth and nothing came...

Though the NFL hasn't confirmed it, rumor has it that The Who (or at least Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, plus sidemen) will be this year's recipient of the "Classic Rock Act That Gets A Post Super Bowl Sales Boost" award. Sports Illustrated is citing sources that say Townshend and Daltrey have been asked to play the halftime show. If the deal gets done, what can we expect? A bunch of songs from the album Townshend and Daltrey are...
