A community portal about Petroleum with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Petroleum or crude oil is a black, dark brown or greenish liquid found in formations in the earth. The American Petroleum Institute, in its Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards, defines it as "a substance, generally liquid, occurring naturally in the earth and composed mainly of mixtures of chemical compounds of carbon and hydrogen with or without other nonmetallic elements such as sulfur, oxygen, and nitrogen."

Environmentalists are panicking - I can feel it.

Our good friend Waldo Proffitt is again against profit. I love it when I can use this analogy. In his article, "Fossil fuel jump-off arrives in America" he is against off shore drilling but "but not for the usual reasons.".

This is because the "usual reasons" don't work anymore. First, it is important to remind you that the Environmental movement is not about the environment, it is about power. It has become a political movement with big dollar lobbyists, lawyers like the ACLU and an entrenched Democrat Party that wants us to suffer higher gasoline prices.

Waldo starts off his article by saying the "usual reasons" will no longer work, except in Florida. Well guess what Waldo, Governor Crist is for off shore drilling. For you see it is safe, will be done in an environmentally sensitive way and will jump start our economy.

First, for those concerned about the environmental impact of drilling offshore Deroy Murdock of the Seattle Post Intelligencer reports, "U.S. offshore oil drilling is not perfectly tidy. It's only 99.999 percent clean. Indeed, since 1980 -- as MMS figures indicate -- 101,997 barrels spilled from among the 11.855 billion barrels of American oil extracted offshore. This is a 0.001 percent pollution rate. While offshore drilling is not 100 percent spotless, this record should satisfy all but the terminally fastidious. Ironically, in terms of oil contamination, Mother Nature is 95 times dirtier than Man. Some 620,500 barrels of oil ooze organically from North America's ocean floors each year. Compare this to the average 6,555 barrels that oil companies have spilled annually since 1998, according to MMS."

Waldo, like Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, believes coal and oil make you "sick". Recently the Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, said that “coal makes us sick. Oil makes us sick. It’s global warming. It’s ruining our country. It’s ruining our world.”

No, what makes us sick is listening to such preposterous lies. A Rasmussen telephone survey taken after Sen. Reid’s absurd statement found that 52% of voters surveyed rejected his views about coal and oil, double the amount of those who agreed.

As for Waldo's tried and true friend Global Warming we find this theory is falling apart, given recent scientific data. As recently as July 8, the Space and Science Research Center held a news conference in which it stated that the warming that has occurred since the end of the Little Ice Age in 1850 was completely natural, i.e., had nothing to do with human or industrial activity.

According to MichNews.com, "More significantly, the Center went on record saying that, “After an exhaustive review of a substantial body of climate research, and in conjunction with the obvious and compelling new evidence that exists, it is time that the world community acknowledges that the Earth has begun the next climate change.” The current warming period is not only at an end, but a distinct cooling cycle has begun and will bring “predominantly colder global temperatures for many years into the future.”

In India, a spokesman for that nation of one billion people has flatly refused to accept the global warming hoax. China shows no sign of yielding to the global warming lies. The greatest agricultural and mercantile economy to have ever existed, the United States of America continues to thwart its own growth by yielding to the lies.

Waldo's new argument is we are "running out of fossil fuels". He is right. The problem is no one knows when because we do not know how much fossil fuel is really out there.

Waldo, time for a reality check. Paul Driessen, from TownHall.com, writes, "Hydrocarbon fuels created America, gave us the technologies and living standards we enjoy today, enabled us to eradicate diseases that plagued earlier generations, and boosted our life expectancy from 50 in 1900 to nearly 80 today. They still provide 85% of our energy, and we could greatly reduce our reliance on oil imports if we would simply end the outrageous policies that keep our nation’s abundant energy resources locked up.

We have enough oil, natural gas, oil shale, coal and uranium to provide power for centuries. We have a growing consensus that we need to drill, onshore and off. But partisan intransigence and absurd environmental claims prevent us from utilizing them. Instead, we’re offered bromides like wind..."

Waldo, we have enough fossil fuels to power us for centuries. This is the time we need to build more nuclear, wind, and solar power plants. More time for new technologies to take hold. Time for better ideas to be explored. We must use these precious fossil fuels wisely - but we must use them.

According to the Florida Atlantic University Center for Ocean Energy Technology, "Florida's economy and the quality of life of its residents are dependent on a sufficient, affordable, secure, reliable and clean supply of energy now and in the future. Florida is currently facing an energy crisis.
  • Florida is the nation's fourth most populous state and ranks third nationally in total energy consumption.
  • Florida's population is over 19 million with nearly 1,000 new residents arriving daily. The state's energy demand is expected to increase by 30% in ten years.
  • Natural gas, coal and other emission-causing fossil fuels compose more than 81% of Florida's electricity-generating capacity, and all near-term (10 year) expansions will be hydrocarbon based.
  • During peak demand, Florida's electricity consumption exceeds its generation capability.
  • Florida is completely reliant on out-of-state fuel sources for electricity generation.
  • In markets like South Florida's, demand is quickly outpacing capacity and there is no land available to build new power plants.
Florida Atlantic University is doing great research on harnessing ocean tides for energy production.

I have pointed out that we must use all the natural resources available to us in the United States and in Florida. We must reach energy independence from foreign oil. This is a national security issue for Floridians. Do we continue to import oil from countries that want to destroy us or do we use our own God given natural resources? That is the fundamental question this November for Floridians.

Gasoline and electrical power costs in Florida are rising rapidly and are predicted to rise even higher. Congress and our state legislature must come together and find real solutions. There is no one solution. There are many solutions and each has its strengths and weaknesses. We must exploit all the natural resources God has blessed Florida with. We must use them wisely and responsibly. It is our duty to use these resources as we continue to care for our planet, over which we all have domain.

There are two clear choices: Don't drill Democrats and Do drill Republicans. Who will you pick?
