Best Answer: Smedrik is correct. If you have bought unchipped ones (OEM’S) you have to transfer the chip from the original one and re-set it with a chip re-setter. You may be better of buying compatibles that are chipped. Some Canons will work without a new chip and just not show ink levels, but even then you have to have a chip on the cartridge or it will not work.

How do cannon makes their ink cartridges that no other ink cartridge will work with their printers?My refiled cartridge didn’t working and printer software says it’s can’t recognized it.
Best Answer: ALL the printer companies do this. The printer polls the chip regularly. When it is empty it sends a signal to the chip. Unless you use a chip resetter, refilling won’t work.
