Monday, November 09, 2009 Posted by Mojo at "Standing Ready" Raleigh, NC - May 2009 (Click to embiggen)  Hosted by Written Inc. There are times, I think, when we might forget about these guys when we think of the term "heroic". We keep our military in mind, and (most of us) group the police in there with them. We then jump to star athletes who score the game winner in the championship or the latest action movie star. But for my money, anybody whose job it is to run in to a place that everyone else is running out of to make sure that ... Read Full Story

Sunday, November 08, 2009 Posted by Mojo at "Sorry, Marg Wasn't Available" Raleigh, NC - September 2009 (Click to embiggen)  Hosted by Written Inc. I've always liked redheads. No, really. I took this as one of a set of experimental shots when my camera and I were having a disagreement about what was and wasn't in focus. I won. (Because the camera is a machine ... and your pet parakeet is smarter than a machine .) Saturday, November 07, 2009 Posted by Mojo at "Prelude, Cadence et Finale" Greensboro, NC - April 2009 (Click to embiggen)  Hosted by Written Inc. How important it is that my son is wearing a red shirt here I really don't know. But because he's wearing a red shirt, I can work this shot from his recital last April into this week's theme, "Red". And really, I only regret that I don't have video -- or at least audio -- of this performance. Because this was just one more example of the "every-time-I-think-the-kid-can't-get-better-he-does" paradigm. Is this the proud papa speaking? Yes, of course it is. ... Read Full Story

Friday, November 06, 2009 Posted by Mojo at "Brandon Sutter (C) DOB: 2/14/1989 6'-3" - 183 lb - Shoots: Right" Raleigh, NC - September 2007 (Click to embiggen)  Hosted by Written Inc. The name Sutter is hardly new to the NHL. Back in the day, there were six Sutter brothers who did tours with various NHL clubs including Brent, father of The Hurricanes first round draft pick in 2007. Carolina went for the genes in that draft, and despite the fact that the kid can't seem to bulk up his 6' 3" frame (the roster lists him at 183... I think they must've weighed ... Read Full Story

Baby legwarmers, (c) Sarah E. White. One of the first things I knit for my new baby was a pair of custom-sized legwarmers, which you can see here. There's not really a pattern to them, they just involved taking the measurements around her ankle, the top of her leg and the length of her leg, knitting a gauge swatch and doing a little math. I think the results are pretty adorable, and the project is so quick and easy you won't mind that the...

It's that time of year again, and throughout Italy people are spreading parachutes under olive trees, gathering Athena's precious gift (the olives), and taking them to the presses -- some modern, and others (like Francesco's, shown here) traditional. And yes, stores are announcing Olio Nuovo, the new oil. When purchasing olive oil, remember that you get what you pay for. The cheap stuff that comes in a 5-liter screw-cap can is going to be...
