Bettie Page 1950s Magazine Covers for Humor Digests Compiled by Vintage Sleaze the Blog

By Artsuggest on
The Humorama line was a small offshoot of Martin Goodman's empire known as Timely Features. Goodman eventually produced Marvel comics, but his first bucks were made with pulp western tales in the 1930s. Cowboys, horses, bandits and oats were good for Goodman, and he was eventually responsible for nearly 100 monthly titles. Enough to turn the nation's virgin forests into a pile of pulp to be delivered to your local newsstand on a regular basis. Today the vast majority of them are in landfills...Read Full Story

Bettie Page From the Rear History of the early Camera Clubs told in Book

By Artsuggest on  From dulltooldimbulb.tumblr.com
Yes, this is the perfect rear of Bettie Page, from "behind" …and one of her friend.  The photograph was taken by Camera Club Member Rudolf Rossi in 1955, he then tinted the color by hand of each by hand. They are 8 x 10 unique images, he only produced one of each, and never exhibited or sold his work.  Over 200 Rudolph Rossi Photographs of Camera Club Models were printed in the book CAMERA CLUB GIRLS (available from Blurb as a $5.99 tablet book or a hardcover book)  tells the story of the...Read Full Story

Elvgren and Ellen the Unsexy Letter Opener Vintage Sleaze

By Artsuggest on  From vintagesleaze.blogspot.com
I haven't made fun of pinup artist Elvgren yet, that artist who was so good he was bad. As I have explained before, this blog is not about glamour, or to be more correct, fake glamour... and if I EVER put anything on here which would be appropriate on a Coca-Cola bottle, (or a Serta mattress, for gawd's sake) please slap me awake. Elvgren was master of the smiling "Good Girl Art" pinup, but bad art. Brown and Bigelow licensed the Elvgren Letter Opener here. Elvgren SCULPTS! The plastic leggy...Read Full Story

Elmer Anderson Mike Kelley Inappropriate Appropriation, The Thing , Genuine Genius Scott Warmuth and Ghostly Afterimage

By Artsuggest on  From dulltooldimbulb.blogspot.com
There is nothing better than a slow-burning low-art mystery, and Elmer Anderson just continues to prove it. My third post on Elmer in as many years, this one prompted by a remarkable find by the brilliant Scott Warmuth . An actual ad (!) taken out by Elmer's distributor, in of all places Billboard Magazine! Maybe they thought musicians were the perfect consumers for his wacky and incomprehensible drawings. You know...the reefer. NOW having done three posts on the artist Elmer, I should be...Read Full Story

Blondes Brunettes Redheads and Low Budget Smut by Jim Linderman

By Artsuggest on  From vintagesleaze.blogspot.com
Growing up, I was certainly given a warped view of women as it seemed any one of them would drop their blouse at the drop of a hat. How could I think otherwise? The top row downtown had 50 titles, each jam-packed with Girls Girls Girls! A few years later I learned there were actually only a few who posed over and over and over...and their names changed as often as the rags they appeared in changed titles. Witness the comely Robin Bliss leaning towards the camera on the covers of two different...Read Full Story

Eric Stanton Gene Bilbrew  Selbee Associates Lenny Burtman and LEGS

By Artsuggest on  From dulltooldimbulb.tumblr.com
A most obscure product from the House of Lenny Burtman 1962. Eric Stanton Cover with Inset by Eugene Bilbrew . 64 pages and loaded with drawings by each artist, as well as a self-portrait of Eric Stanton trying to concentrate. I do not believe there was a second issue, but then this one was hard to find, so it is possible. The Fantasy fashions are modeled by Rita De Farge, Juanita Hayes and Pat Benson (as well as some without names) but the real surprise is the Bilbrew "trip around the world...Read Full Story

Mail Order Porn from the Past Smut by Mail from Dull Tool Dim Bulb

By Artsuggest on  From dulltooldimbulb.tumblr.com
Not Free, but Almost! Vintage Sleaze Smut by Mail the Book My expensive books are now inexpensive Ebooks! Now available for the iPad at only $5.99. Pre-dating the sloppy graphics of the punk aesthetic by two decades, the ads, brochures and come-ons of the golden age of mail order smut were produced in basements, attics and print shops after hours. Placing the images in the now absurd context of failed obscenity battles and censorship trials of the 1950s and 1960s the book stands as a...Read Full Story
