Hratch Karamanoukian, MD, FACPh, a Board Certified Phlebologist presented two scientific articles at the 23rd Annual American College of Phlebology On November 6 and November 7, 2009 in Palm Desert, California.
The doctor's presentation about individuals with a known history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) who were evaluated and treated with EVLT and VNUS Clousre was widely embraced by an international audience of phlebologists.
Dr. Karamanoukian studied patients who had DVT at least 5 years before having EVLT or VNUS Closure and found that in this population, it is "safe to perform these procedures without added risk of developing DVT". He was interviewed by the French Society of Phlebologists for a television and DVD audience.
Dr. Karamanoukian stated that there is a lot of interest in these types of patients as they are often "written off as non-candidates by other doctors because they think that they have an added risk of forming DVT after VNUS Closure or EVLT".
He basically reiterated that "if you have had DVT in the past, this does not preclude or exclude you from being a candidate for the EVLT Never Touch Procedure".
Dr. Hratch Karamanoukian is a Board Certified Phlebologist who practices in Williamsville, NY. He has over 140 scientific publications and has authored over a dozen medical books.
He coauthored this article with his brother, Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian, who is also a board certified phlebologist in Santa Monica, CA and Beverly Hills, CA.
