The letter and information that follows was put together by my friend, Nancy Gates, with Marin County Farm Bureau. I hope you will take the time to read through it. Thank you!!

With Bryce being on spring break this week, and some nice spring weather here, I thought it would be fun to take the kids on an impromptu beach adventure. We ate lunch and left for Pt. Reyes National Seashore, which is about 25 minutes from home.
Our favorite beach was waiting for us, or so we thought. Heart's Desire Beach is in Tomales Bay State Park, but it was CLOSED! Must be due to California budget cuts or just happens to be closed on Tuesdays.
We continued on through the park to...Read Full Story
Yesterday we drove out to our favorite beach area in Tomales Bay - Pt. Reyes National Seashore with our friends, the Taylors. It was a foggy day when we headed out but it turned out to be beautiful at the coast a little while later. A warm 65-70 degrees, bright and sunny, once the fog cleared at around noon. It must be jellyfish season {is there such a thing?} in the bay this time of year because there were literally hundreds of them we could see. Tomales bay is really shallow for quite a...Read Full Story
What a beautiful morning out in West Marin today! Dominic and our friend John, who sits on the Marin County Farm Bureau board with Dominic, had an informal meeting with the new Superintendent of Pt. Reyes National Seashore, Cicely Muldoon in Pt. Reyes Station. While they were having breakfast, the kids and I met Karen (John's wife) and their daughter, Eva for coffee and a park play date. We stopped in the Tomales Bay Foods building at the Cowgirl Cantina counter to grab a coffee. Also...Read Full Story
I adore barns. Most especially old barns, they definitely have more character. On a recent morning trip out to the town of Pt. Reyes Station, we stopped at this old barn. It was a working dairy barn up until a few years ago and sits at the south end of Tomales Bay, just two blocks from the center of the town. Today, through the Giacomini Wetlands Restoration , this former dairy ranch has been returned to tidal wetlands and flood plains it once was many years ago and is now owned by the...Read Full Story

After two years of failed attempts, biologists in the Point Reyes National Seashore captured an elusive northern elephant seal this week and removed a thick white packing strap that had become cinched around its neck.
Only in this case, the beach at Point Reyes National Seashore is covered by elephant seals, not hormone-crazed twenty-somethings. These huge seals -- males tip the scales at up to 5,000 pounds and then some -- draw their distinctive name from the large snouts sported by the males, according to Friends of the Elephant Seal.
Point Reyes is in Northern California, just north of San Franciso Bay. It's a fantastic day trip from the city, offering hiking, beaches, and beautiful scenery. If you are in the area, be sure to also visit nearby Tomales Bay.
A popular trip within Point Reyes is the drive out to the Point Reyes Lighthouse.
