Police Chief Flinchum provides more details about the Norris Hall shootings

Police chief Flinchum said that victims were found in 4 different classrooms and in the stairwells of Norris Hall. Ballistic experts also said that the gun used in the shootings at West Johnson Amber Hall earlier in the morning is the same gun used later in the shootings at Norris Hall. However, police said they could not yet confirm it was the same shooter in both incidents. Cho Seung-hui was identified as the gunman, based on fingerprints on the weapon. Little is known about Cho Seung-hui other than his age (23), major (english) and status as a senior student at Virginia Tech. Read Full Story

Chief Wendell Flinchum is investigating linkage to previous bomb threats

Virginia Police Chief Wendell Flinchum is starting an investigattion to see if today's school shootings were related to 2 recent bomb threats. The first bomb threat occured on April 3 inTorgersen Hall.  A written note threatened the hall, according to the Roanoke Times. The school canceled classes in the building for the day and sent bomb-sniffing dogs in to check it out. No bomb was found and thre building was declared safe. The second bomb threat occured just a few days ago on Friday.  School authorities closed Torgersen hall, Durham hall and Whittimore hall over the weekend to investigate. No bombs were found and ... The Roanoke Times has eyewitness reports from students at Virginia Tech. One of the reports is from freshman Allyn Hughes: "When I left the dorm this morning, no one really knew what was going on until I walked outside and there were [about] 20 police cars in the quad. Name of the gunman is Cho Seung-hui

Cho Seung-hui was a 23 year old student at Virginia Tech.  He killed more than 30 people during the school shooting yesterday, then took his own life.  Cho was an undergraduate student in his senior year at Virginia Tech as an English major. Cho Seung-hui was South Korean, but was a permanent legal resident of the United States.  His family lives in Virginia. ABC News reported that Cho left a "disturbing note" related to the first shootings from early in the morning on April 16th. Cho went on to shoot and kill many more students in Norris Hall later in the morning. Read Full Story

Police Chief Wendell Flinchum provides some details

Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum said that one person was killed in the first shooting, which occurred just after 7 a.m. at West Ambler Johnston Hall, a large dormitory. Chief Flinchum also said that at least 20 more people were killed at Norris Hall, an academic building. A school shooting has occurred at Virginia Tech campus leaving at least one dead, apparently at this time the gunman has not been apprehended. Apparently there was a bomb threat Friday that cancelled classes there. Update; Apparently the news conferences occurring is that at least 33 people are dead including the gunman, this would be the worst shooting in U.S history. Apparently the shooting began about 7:15 A.M, when the first 911 call came in and two hours later the shooting began in another part of the campus. Virginia Tech President Steger said that just as police officers reached the second floor of Norris Hall in response to 911 calls about the shootings, the gunshots stopped.  The gunman was found dead. Police Chief Flinchum said the gunman took his own life. Read Full Story
