Stress & Adrenal Fatigue

The last two weeks we have been discussing PTSD and it's use in Legal Advocacy in court regarding divorce, seperation, rehabilitative alimony and child custody. You can read the last two weeks of newsletters to see how using a PTSD ccommodations Report in Court can help you.

And you can also read up on the differences between PTSD and mental illness if you are concerned with getting labeled 'mentally ill' (PTSD is a stress reaction not a mental illness.)

In many other newsletters I have written extensively about PTSD and recovery. Much of learning to heal from or live with PTSD has to do with learning to 'Live a Gentle Life' that is less stressful. You can read about PTSD and the Gentle Life in previous newsletters/blog spots by CLICKING HERE.

However, PTSD as a stress disorder is an indicator of extreme stress. If you have it, that means you have suffered an emotional, physical, spiritual, sexual, and/or psychological trauma that was severe enough or long enough in duration to significantly impact you. There is a group of Stress Disorders and having any of them mean two things: 1. You were significantly stressed or traumatized 2. The stress and/or trauma has effected your functioning level.

PTSD can be short term and resolved with treatment within a few months or it can be chronic and life long, often reactivated by MORE stress or MORE trauma. In my case, I have chronic PTSD that is reactivated when I am worn down, too stressed, not living a gentle life, or other life events that are difficult (my mothers death) and reactivate it.

With PTSD, whether it's short or long term, you are likely to have a reduced level of productivity. Your concentration can be impaired, sleep is disrupted, you are hyper vigiliant and have an exaggerated startle reflex, you have anxiety and a mixture of depression, intrusive thoughts, emotional numbing, flashbacks and panic. None of this lends itself to being able to work well, consistently, or productively. Even if you are unemployed, the quality of your daily life is disrupted and your life productivity in your day to day living is reduced. This is why people often need treatment for PTSD. That could be short or long term treatment, individual weekly counseling, group counseling, inpatient treatment, or any combination of those.

PTSD as a stress disorder has it's long term outcomes in medical conditions as do many other stress disorders. Unresolved stress and trauma (whether it's PTSD or every day stress) can and most often does end up in medical disorders. Part of seeking rehabilitative alimony in court with a PTSD diagnosis is because of the loss of productivity AND because of the long term effects on your health. 25 years after the murder of my father I am continuing to see the medical outcome of chronic PTSD in my health.

Often in court, women do not know to have their attorneys argue for rehab alimony or medical coverage for treatment FOR THE FUTURE. So many don't realize how their health could be impacted now and years from now. Stress and PTSD have many long term medical possibilities, including:

• Auto Immune Disorders: Fibromyalga, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Epstein Bar Syndrome, Lupus, M.S.
• Various forms of arthritis
• Gastric problems
• Migraines and TMJ
• Female problems (Gynecological & Endocrinological)
• Ongoing anxiety and depression
• Thyroid and Adrenal Fatigue
• Sleep disorders
• Diabetes or Insulin Resistance
  
• And most commonly, a combination of the above
  

Settling your divorce or court case with the pathological and NOT considering the future medical outcome of the stress he produced in your BODY is unwise. Because we do know that many of these stress disorders and/or PTSD will continue on long after he is gone and in the end, effect a person's health in
some way. That's because at the heart of the medical conditions that develop is adrenal fatigue.

Adrenal Fatigue is the culprit must likely associated with medical disorders that go on to develop. Treating and managing adrenal fatigue could actually prevent many of the disorders that will later develop because of untreated and unmanaged adrenal fatigue.

Chronic stress wears out the adrenal glands that support other healthy functioning in your body. When stress, poor diet, lack of sleep and unresolved problems wear out the gland, your body is in a down ward spiral and cannot heal from stress or PTSD. To find out if you have adrenal fatigue, we are attaching a link to the quiz. If you do have adrenal fatigue, this is a stepping stone to other medical conditions if not treated immediately. More importantly, your body has started down that path. If you are in a court case, please advise your attorney of the disorder as it may be able to be argued regarding stress disorders and your need for continued medical coverage and care.

This is info that came RIGHT from the retreats and what I spoke and taught about there. No need to attend a retreat or 1:1 with this info!! You can do it yourself for most of it!

PLUS PLUS PLUS I added some great self help exercises right in there for intrusive thoughts, obsessions, cognitive dissonance/conflict with how you see him, mindfulness skills for battling cognitive problems, and MORE! (Couple this with the new Hypnosis CD for a blast through recovery!!)

This picks up also where DVD 2 left off and moves INTO the treatment issues associated with what YOU need in order to heal. Buy it for your COUNSELOR for God sakes!! If they don't get it after watching DVD 2 and DVD 3, you need to change counselors!! This is an indepth teaching for mental health professionals on the structural deficits of personality disorders, how it effects life time development and what that looks like in the essence of relationships. There is specific treatment issues, recovery focuses, and references to
other materials of our that will help them establish a firm and comprehensive treatment approach.

This DVD should be accompanied with DVD 2 for the most comprehensive training. Actually, the BEST approach for a therapist would be all 3 DVD's--and we'll make it reasonable so that they WANT to do it!

"How Can I Help the Institute?"

Every week we have people emailing asking how they can be part of The Institute.
There are big and small things that people can do to get involved.

THE INSTITUTE 2009 CONFERENCE

I get realllyyyy looonggg emails from women about how they can't recover, etc. and when I ask if they have read a book, listened to a CD, called a phone counselor, watched a DVD the answer is always NO. There's no magic here ladies -- recovery IS WORK.

The depression doesn't go away by itself, nor does the anxiety, the intrusive thoughts, the obsessional thinking, the hopelessness. You have to DO something in order to GET something different going on in your recovery.

I know... I know.... I'm mean. One client years ago made a sign that they stuck on my counseling door that said "Sandy's Butt Kick Boot Camp." But you know what, I had more people recovering than most counselors because I just don't take the excuses for 'why' people don't get well. I overcame the blood of my father's murder... I know that people can overcome PTSD and get a better life. Will YOU, is the question??

WHY RETREATS DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TAKES TO HEAL

A 4 day treatment cycle is the equivalent of 3-4 months worth of counseling! This is based on if you were to do the normal types of outpatient counseling where you live which is one hour a week. It could take you 3 or 4 months to learn and process what you can do here in a short amount of time... and that's IF you could find a therapist trained in this.

Lastly, I have stopped doing phone counseling because of my writing/ researching/ and work schedule.

But there are so many women who need help! Using the private retreat cycles is a great way to get help FAST and get functioning FAST. It's also cheaper in the long run than weekly therapy.

RESEARCH

The Dangerous Relationship Institute is a research-based program. Our current research project headed up by Dr. Leedom is 'Women Who Love Psychopaths.' This is the first of it's kind research project to study the women who have been in relationships with psychopaths. This informational survey will help lead the way in prevention and intervention with at-risk women. The results so far have been FASCINATING. We have extended the survey deadline so if you want to be involved take the survey here:

The more I do research on women in pathological love relationships the more they tell me what SETS THEM OFF or RELAPSES them -- one of the big triggers is LONELINESS!

So many women have no idea how to manage their own sense of loneliness in their lives and it becomes a stumbling block back INTO the pathological relationship.

Ladies: Recovery comes to those who work a recovery program! TODAY take the first step and do something that moves you forward to the life you want to have. Let us know if we can help you with that first step!

A leading issue in mental health in general is the ability to be calmly by yourself and geniunely enjoy your own presence. Being alone is NOT the same thing as being lonely.

Only you can create your life in such a way as to make fulfilling and head off your own loneliness. But you do have to PLAN your life and PLAN what to do ahead of time for loneliness. Of the hundreds of women we have helped, almost all of them have cited loneliness, boredom, or not having a life as a reason they went back OR started yet another unhealthy relationship. One of the first steps of recovery is to develop a full life for yourself. Nothing happens until that occurs.

Have a plan what to do if you get lonely so you don't do the disasterous "Drink & Dial!" Or you don't do the 'Daydream & Dial.' HE'S NOT DIFFERENT! Nothing has changed!

Learn to build a great life and avoid the risk factor of loneliness.
