We were having dinner with some friends this evening. As with all old warriors, the conversation will eventually turn to athletic pursuits of the past. While my husband and I have led a full life we really don't have any claims to fame...period. We are just country people that lived, worked, retired, and live, work, and love retirement. But we seem to run into some very interesting people every where we go. When we were in Arizona this last winter we loved the people that surrounded us. We had a doctor, a home economist that worked at Iowa State, business people and so on ... Read Full Story

When you finally go back to your old hometown, you find it wasn't the old home you missed but your childhood. Sam Ewing When you are raised in a small community you have a totally different outlook on life. My little town was called Huntington, named after a famous railroad man. It reminds me very much of the old community of Orenco (Oregon Nursery Company). It boasted a population of 800. My high school had about 75 students and I graduated with a class of 17. Yesterday, while waiting in line to order my food at Taco Bell, my wait was extended because the person in front of me could not speak English and was having a very difficult time communicating with the cashier. The poor cashier was already overloaded, obviously tired and under pressure to serve the long line of patrons in fast food style. I observed the cashier closely as she rolled her eyes in frustration and it seemed obvious this was no new experience to her. As I watched the exchanges between them....it occurred to me that I am seeing this kind of scenario TOO often in ... Read Full Story

Every time I put on a pair of pantyhose, I say to myself...."A man had to invent these....I cannot imagine a woman doing this to herself or her future generations!" I finally decided to "google" it......and........sure enough.......Allen Grant Senior "invented" pantyhose.....and in 1959, Glen Raven Mills "introduced" them. My many years of suspicion have been confirmed. Ha! And it wasn't just ONE man....but TWO!!! Double HA!!! My next thought was "What significance would pantyhose be to man?" Then it hit me! In 1959, women did not wear dresses above their knees. These men had a hidden agenda.....make womens legs look tanned, smoother and firmer ... Read Full Story
