Guinea-Conakry
Following the incidents on 28 September
2009 in Conakry, the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Dr. Ali Abdussalam
Treki, after having met with the Guinean Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued
a statement deploring and condemning the killing and wounding of hundreds
of civilians. In light of more recent developments in Guinea, the President
of the General Assembly has issued the following statement:
- The
President of the General Assembly shares the concern of the international
community and supports all efforts aimed at addressing the situation, namely
those by the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African
States (ECOWAS) and its Mediator President Blaise Compaoré of Burkina Faso,
and the International Contact Group on Guinea.
- The
President from the General Assembly calls on all countries to refrain from
interfering in the internal affairs of Guinea.
- The
President of the General Assembly joins his voice to the call for a swift
return to constitutional order and the rule of law in Guinea.
