Prison Break Season 4 – The Final Season

Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) have escaped the Panamanian prison that was the setting for Season 3, and have themselves a new mission. Determined to bring down the shadowy ‘Company’ that has destroyed their lives and killed the woman Scofield loves, Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies). The series begins in Los Angeles, with Scofield, Burrows and their fellow former convicts coerced by Homeland Security and Special Agent Don Self into stealing a device that may well be able to help take down the company, Scylla. Scylla contains all of The Companies dirty secrets and in the right hands could successfully destroy them. However, nothing is as it seems in Season 4, with secrets revealed, mysteries solved and double crosses galore, the pace never flags.
Prison Break was a ground-breaking series when it was initially launched, and nothing has changed. As the seasons have unfolded, the series has gone from strength to strength, constantly shaking things up. Mysteries and ongoing subplots have kept Prison Break fresh throughout it’s 4 season run. And this, the final season, is no different. With an almost Mission Impossible / A-Team feel to it, this season has intricate break ins and cons that always take the viewer by surprise. Revelations and double crosses, nothing is what it seems and it all leads to an explosive 2 hour finale that is a fitting end to an extremely well crafted series.
Performances throughout this season are strong and never lacking in quality. Miller and Purcell have lived these characters for 4 seasons and have got them down to a tee. However, William Fichtner and Michael Rapaport are the highlights of this season. Rapaport’s performance as Homeland Security Agent Don Self is excellent and brings a fresh face into the mix. Fichtner is given some material he can really dig his teeth into and particularly in the 9th episode, ‘Greatness Achieved’. I won’t say any more as I really don’t want to spoil it, needless to say Fichtner deserves some kind of award.
Overall this is one of the best television series of recent years, always of a high quality, and this is equally true of this season. It’s a real shame that Prison Break is no longer going to be on our screens, but this is the way you end a series. On a real high, explosively and with style. Highly recommended.
