Project Runway Recap: Finale

This will be a fairly brief post, as I previously posted the final collections, and also, the gist of the recap is LEANNE WINS! I loved her final collection, and while I think Korto and Kenley acquitted themselves admirably on the runway (at least design-wise, cough cough, Kenley), Leanne’s collection was pretty head and shoulders above anything else (maybe it was my imagination, but it seemed like Leanne and her collection pulled in the most applause as well as awed audience facial reactions).

So, some random musings and photos.  Due to a last minute cancellation by planned guest judge Jennifer Lopez due to totally fishy and lame reasons, Tim Gunn ended up as the fourth judge for the finale!

This, of course, caused Kenley to totally poo in her pants and declare that she perhaps should have adjusted her attitude a little (a priceless moment happened earlier in the workroom when she was being so ass-y towards Tim that he literally rolled his eyes and walked away from her).  Also?  The fact that she said that makes me think that she is more in control of her jerkiness than she lets on, so any pity I had for her has pretty much dissipated.

During the first part of the finale last week, I was trying to put my finger on what her hand painted dresses reminded me of, and this week the judges figured it out for me: Balenciaga.

So…yeah.  It’s really hard to believe that she’s as ignorant as she claims to be of major couture collections (note not just the similarity of the pattern, but also the shape).  Whatever.  She didn’t win.

Korto and Leanne were effectively the top two, but again, Leanne’s collection was just super couture and dramatic, and the judges felt that Korto’s collection was a bit overworked.  Korto, I think, has a great career ahead of her, and as the judges pointed out, a deep understanding of what looks great and flatters women of all shapes and sizes.

Oh, and loved Korto’s dress that she wore for her final collection.  The shape reminds me a lot of Richard Ruiz’s Tea Dress:
